Let's get started with the tips and tricks when making this delicious chicken sisig recipe.
Tips and Tricks for Making Chicken Sisig
Use Fresh Ingredients: For the best flavor, use fresh onions, garlic, and bell peppers. Fresh ingredients will enhance the overall taste and aroma of your chicken sisig.
Properly Season the Chicken: Make sure to season the chicken well with soy sauce, calamansi juice, and chili peppers. Adjust the seasoning to your taste preference, adding more or less soy sauce and calamansi juice as needed.
Add a Smoky Flavor: If you don't have leftover baked chicken, you can grill or broil the chicken to add a smoky flavor. This will give your chicken sisig an extra depth of flavor.
Chop Chicken into Small Pieces: Chop the chicken into small, bite-sized pieces to ensure that it mixes well with the other ingredients and absorbs the flavors evenly.
Use a Sizzling Plate: For an authentic sisig experience, serve the chicken sisig on a sizzling plate. This not only keeps the dish hot but also adds a nice presentation.
Top with a Raw Egg: For a traditional touch, top the chicken sisig with a raw egg just before serving. The heat from the sizzling plate will cook the egg slightly, adding a creamy texture to the dish.
Adjust the Heat Level: If you prefer a spicier dish, add more chili peppers or a dash of hot sauce. You can also use different types of chili peppers to vary the heat level.
Garnish with Fresh Herbs: Garnish the chicken sisig with fresh herbs like chopped parsley or cilantro for added freshness and color.
Serve with Rice: Chicken sisig is best enjoyed with steamed rice. The rice helps balance the savory and tangy flavors of the dish.
Experiment with Add-ins: Feel free to experiment with additional ingredients like crispy pork skin, chicharrón, or even mayonnaise for a richer flavor. Customize the recipe to suit your taste preferences.
By following these tips and tricks, you can create a delicious and authentic chicken sisig that will impress your family and friends!
Ingredients
- left-over chicken (about 3-4 cups of deboned chicken breast)
- 1 medium-sized onion
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 1 lemon juice extract
- 5 tablespoon of vinegar
- 5 Thai peppers or 3 Labuyo pepper (optional - use only if you like spicy food)
- 4 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoon of cooking oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon of mayonnaise
- 2 eggs
Directions
-
Heat oil in a pan. While waiting for the oil to be heated, prepare your ingredients. Chop your onion and garlic. If your chicken is not deboned, you can use this time to start deboning your freshly baked chicken or left-over chicken.
-
Sauté onion and garlic.
-
Once onion is translucent, add the deboned chicken.
Cook for 7-10 minutes, until the chicken starts to brown.
-
In a separate bowl, combine the lemon, vinegar, spicy peppers, salt, pepper, and soy sauce.
Note: This recipe may be a bit salty for others but that's how I like my sisig since I'm pairing it with rice, but you can adjust salt accordingly.
-
Add the vinegar mixture to the chicken in a pan. Cook for another 5 minutes.
-
In a cup or separate bowl, mix the mayonnaise and 1 egg. Note: The other egg will be used for the final step before turning off the heat.
-
Add the mayonnaise mixture to the pan and cook for another 3 minutes.
-
Add the last egg and stir quickly. At this point, I already turned off my stove top since it will have enough heat to continue cooking the sisig.
-
Serve while hot and enjoy!
