Classic Dark Chocolate Brownies or just simply brownie is a chocolate baked confection which is then cut into square or rectangular serving shapes. The brownies were originated in the United States. However, there is a famous theory of its origin which is from that of Bertha Palmer, an American businesswoman and head of the Board of Lady Managers for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Her husband owned a hotel named Palmer House Hotel. She directed the Palmer House pastry chefs to prepare a dessert that would be suitable for lunch boxes at the Woman’s Pavilion. So, they came up with the dessert which we now call brownie. The dessert became famous, but they weren’t called brownie before. The first mentioned brownies which came from American cookbooks occurred just several years later.

  • 200g melted dark chocolates
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • White chocolate chips on top (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C or 338°F.

    In a large mixing bowl, put in melted butter and add the white and brown sugar. Whisk together thoroughly.

    Tip: You will know that the brownie is cooked already by using toothpick method. Insert a toothpick in the center of your brownie and if it comes out clean, without any batter sticking to the toothpick, it means that the brownie is done.
